We've been Grounded but...

After coming back from our 8 week quarantine & mandated closure, we have LOVED seeing everyone in our studio classes and in our virtual zoom classes. Many of our teachers and students have been practicing and dancing together for years, so the sudden stop was as hard emotionally as it was physically. Upon returning though, we also had to enact several changes to our curriculum and class formatting to limit the chances of potentially spreading/sharing the virus. This meant no spotting for us, ie no inverted or upside down tricks that would need a physical spot. For many of us that meant we were GROUNDED.
What has happened surprised us! After some valid sadness and frustration, we have seen students embrace and discover other ways of feeling flight and freedom in their body's movement. Dancing is both a gift and a practice, whether your feet are off the floor or your body is upside down, our students (and instructors) found joy and creativity despite the new limitations.
Although we look forward to the days we can physically lift students up who need it, in the mean time we will continue to do so metaphorically and enjoy the gift of being & dancing together. #impulsestrong <3
